Installed a GIGABYTE GA-7DXR+ W/clean WIN 98 Install. In Device Manger My PCI Bus management shows not working or no drivers installed. Have installed all the software from the supplied disc and the MB works fine in all other areas. Runs all loaded software, reads RAM fine, and all other HW is O.K. Have done a format and reinstall of win98 and repeated the driver install with the same effect.Cannot hook up to the internet cause my NIC cards on the PCI bus. Tried it with the Nic card removed [Only thing on the Bus] Deleted the devices and windows cannot not find the drivers on the supplied disc or my win98 disc. Thanks.

Did you install the VIA drivers? If not you must install those. You may also want to go to the VIA website and download the newest version. I'm not at my home computer, and I can't remember the VIA website, or I would give it to you.

Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty sure I installed those drivers. It's my daughters computer and it's a few miles away so when I have time I go over and try to figure it out. What you say makes sense as the Via chip does control the IO and everything routes through it. Evverthing else seems to run fine. Like HD,floppy etc.
But I'll reload and see what happens. Once again, thanks for your help. :)

Your welcome.

Post back if it works or doesn't. It's nice to know wether or not the suggestions actually helped or not. If they don't, then maybe we can try another route until we get it fixed.

Gonna give it a go Tuesday. Will let you know. Although every time I've deleted the PCI Bus and win finds it It can never find the drivers on the disc. I'm going to try copying the files for the VIA IO controller directly.

Finally got to reload the drivers but no go. Have tried many times to delete the device and start over [like if it didn't work the first time it would the second ;) ]but the drivers aren't found on my disc. So off I go to the VIA website and got the latest for the southbridge and it appears the PCI management bus is working as it doesn't show up stoopid in DM.
But of course the NIC needs drivers I don't have, nor does win98, and my daughter has throughly trashed my wifes computer with spyware and all kinds of garbage. So I cannot find the linksys site cause lop.com keeps redirecting me to its bulls#$t search engine. Time to unlock my machine and go for it. Ahhh.....kids. Don't ya just wanna strangle them.

I let you know the end result when I can. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Well I finally got of my can and found the VIA web site. They have these so called "4 in 1 " driver fix's. Shame they couldn't put them on the friggin disc that came with the mobo. So after installing them it works fine. All I have to look forward to now is a reformat after she trashes the HD.

Once again thanks for your help. Sorry it was a lame problem. Who I really feel sorry for are people who know less than me and take it to a computer store and are charged 50 bucks just to install drivers. Therefore I feel compelled to tell everyone about this site. Prepare yourself for a possible deluge. :?

Actually the VIA 4in 1 drivers should be on the disc that came with the mobo. However, most of the time by the time the mobo is purchased and installed the drivers are out of date and new ones have already been made available.

Yes it is a shame that people will pay money for something they could do them selves in a few minutes and just a little research.

Tell all your friends to join the forum. The more people the better the help.

Glad you got the computer fixed. Good job! 8)
