Hey, I just installed a new processor and fan in my computer, and now it just doesn't want to start. The new processor is an Athlon XP 1800+, and I can't think of the brand of motherboard offhand, but I do know that it does support up to 2000+. I had a duron in it before, with no problems. The new fan kicks on when I start up the computer, as do the existing fans, cd drives, and video card. However, I'm not getting any signal to my monitor, the lights on the keyboard and optical mouse are non-existent, and the computer also does not beep as it normally would when starting up. At first, I thought that my ram was loose, but that did not solve the problem. I've double checked all the connections, and I just can't find what would be causing it. Since I only changed the processor, I suppose that certainly could be the problem, but shouldn't the bios still come up even if the processor isn't working correctly? I'd put my old processor back in to see if that still works, but it was a real pain removing and replacing the fan, so I don't want to do that unless I have no other options. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this, or is there anything that I may have neglected to check here? Thanks for taking the time to read this!

I'm not to sure about this, but it wouldn't hurt to check your motherboard book over and to see if your settings for the CPU are correct. If you have power, which you do, it must be the CPU since thats what you changed.

It probably would not hurt to try to boot up from your floppy disk, to see
if it runs from your boot up disk.
Try clearing your CMOS either by removing the battery, or setting the jumper to do this (some motherborads do have this jumper in place), and
then, try to boot up again.
If you are able to start-up, try loading the Chipset drivers again.

Good luck...
