alright this is the problem i clean installed windows on my computer because i was having some other serious problems and now it is running great except that windows could not detect a driver for my sound card. my sound card is built in to the motherboard so it is generic and i don't know the brand or anything. i have the cd that came with my motherboard and it has sound drivers on it but windows could not find a suitable driver on that cd either. i have tried just installing generic sound drivers and non of them work. please help i am very frustrated

Zack, check in the C:\My Computer\System\Hardware to see if there are
exclamation or question marks on your sound card. If you have no exclamation or question marks, then check your cables. I had a similar problem, and it ended up being a loose connection between my computer and the sound woofer.

You can also try and check Windows Update online and see if there are any driver updates listed there. I had a similar problem with a video card after installing a fresh copy on Win98 and the update was there and fixed it right up.
